A petition calling for the protection of the Waters of Philorth Nature Reserve has already gathered more than 300 signatures in less than a week, highlighting the strength of feeling around the proposed development.
Launched by Julie, Ken and Will Ramsay of Friends of Philorth, the petition urges people to oppose plans by Ground Golf to build a new golf course at Mains of Cairnbulg, which would extend into the nature reserve. The speed at which support has grown reflects how strongly people value this landscape and the role it plays in the community.
For many, the Waters of Philorth is not just a natural space but part of everyday life. It is used by walkers, dog owners and visitors who rely on its open access and informal use. The growing number of signatures shows that concerns about the future of the reserve are widely shared.
Supporters continue to raise questions about the long-term impact of the development, particularly on the dune system, wildlife habitats, and how the land would be used in practice. While the proposals describe a shared space, there remains uncertainty about how this would work alongside a managed golf course.
The early momentum behind the petition suggests that awareness of the issue is increasing. Each new signature adds weight to the message that the Waters of Philorth is a valued and important place that should be protected.
Julie, Ken and Will Ramsay have thanked everyone who has signed and shared the petition so far, and are encouraging others to continue spreading the word to ensure that local voices are heard.
