A place that works for the community
For years, David has walked the dunes at the Waters of Philorth. It’s part of his daily routine and a place he values deeply.
He comes here most days, often with his dog, using the paths and open ground that people have relied on for years. It is a space that is easy to access, informal, and used by a wide range of people from the local area.
The proposed golf course development at Mains of Cairnbulg would extend into this part of the reserve. For David, that raises real concerns about how the land would be used in the future. While the plans describe a shared space, it is difficult to see how that would work in practice without changing the way people currently use the area.
Access, in its current form, would likely be affected. The freedom to walk without restriction, to let dogs run, and to use the land as it has been used for years would be difficult to maintain alongside a managed golf course.
There are also concerns about the impact on the dunes and surrounding environment. This is a sensitive coastal area, and any large-scale development would involve significant changes to the landscape.
For David, the issue is straightforward. This is a place that already works for the community. Changing it for a new purpose risks losing what makes it valuable in the first place.
